Analysing titles in opening sequences
I will be analysing the ways in which titles are presented in opening sequences. I will be using the website http://www.artofthetitle.com/ for reference, I'm doing this because it will allow me to look up films from my genre and then be able to conduct research on the way in which they present their title. I will be taking screenshots of the page to help me show each point I am making.
Black Panther:
The titles in this opening sequence are presented in a way that matches the film very well. They are freeze frames featuring a mixture of both people and objects, some fighting and others just isolated. The font is all the same as it introduces the actors and producers. The colours of each freeze frame reflect different moods, however, it is left to be interpreted by the audience. The symbolism and imagery used creates an element of mystery and makes the audience more intrigued as to what happens further on in the film.
Doctor Strange:
The titles in this opening sequence create a great sense of mystery and enigma. The colours and patterns reflected throughout give nothing away to the plot but at the same time show an insight into the setting of the film. The font is in capitals and does not show much.
Yellowstone:
Perhaps the most obvious of these titles is the correlation between the title and the colour of the slides- all yellow. They provide a lot of information to the audience about what settings happen and the locations. The audience can already gather a lot of information about the film.
Venom:
The titles in this film feature three main block colours, red, white and black. They provide contrast with each other and the red gives connotations of anger and blood. It is cleverly animated in a way to create monsters with the colours. The font is not distinctive and is what would be expected from a film of this genre. The imagery reflected throughout creates a feeling of danger in the audiences head.
